What to Juice and Why Raw Fruits
By: Denice Moffat

?I try not to eat fruits because the sugar/carbohydrates are so high,? say many of my clients. The fact is that all of us need sugar for our brains and the sugar in Latte?s, processed fruit juices, sodas, candy, baked goods and pastas are not the best sugars for us. If we would just cut out a few of those highly processed sugars and add some natural fructose to our diets in the form of raw fruits, we would be much healthier. Even diabetics can use fruit as snacks?especially if they eat a little protein a few minutes afterwards and balance it out with a teaspoon of nuts or nut butter.

When people come to me asking for help and they are really sick, they usually need the extra enzymes and vitamins that are contained in raw foods?especially fruits. Occasionally these volumes are so large, that it would be almost impossible to get those servings in each day and eat anything else. In these cases I recommend juicing.

Using raw fruit juice is totally different than using reconstituted, canned, bottled or frozen juices. Raw fruit juices make our bodies more alkaline which is great for most every disease we get. Processed juice makes our body more acid, which is not good. With fruit juices, you always want to dilute them with water so that you don?t blast out your pancreas with the high levels of natural sugars. Sipping them over a period of time is also good instead of gulping them down. And I recommend drinking them before noon and taking them by themselves for best digestion.

It only takes 10 minutes to digest most types of fruit. Bananas are the hardest to digest?it takes about 40 minutes to digest a banana. That?s why this fruit is sometimes not tolerated by people with low stomach acid. Bananas are also on the list of foods that can cause migraine headaches. Hmm. I digress. . .

Let?s get onto the list and what fruit juices are used for which disease processes:

Types of Fruit Juices:

? Apple?Liver, intestines, blood cleanser.

? Apricots?High in iron for anemia, silica and vitamin A for hair and skin.

? Bananas?Heart and muscles.

? Cherry, Black?Colon, menstrual problems, gout, prevents tooth decay.

? Citrus?Obesity, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, raises body temperature to fry out viruses/bacteria, bruising, heart disease, stroke. (Note: Don?t juice the skin of any citrus except lemon and lime. They are difficult to digest and can cause colo-rectal problems.)

? Cranberries?Urinary tract infections, antiviral, makes the inside of the bladder slicker so that bacteria can?t stick to it and it tightens the urinary sphincter muscles so can help with urinary incontinent problems.

? Grape?Colon, anemia, good for kidneys and heart, high in iron, soothing to nervous system, builds hemoglobin, promotes healthy bowel action, liver cleaners, helps to eliminate uric acid, helps with low blood pressure, obesity.

? Grapefruit?High blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, obesity.

? Lemon?Liver, gallbladder, allergies, asthma, cardiovascular disease, colds, obesity.

? Melons?Eat them alone or leave them alone, good for kidneys (diuretic), juicing watermelon rind gives you 95% of the melons nutritional benefits compared to only 5% of juice without the rind.

? Papaya?Stomach, indigestion, hemorrhoids, colitis.

? Pear?Gallbladder, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, digestion, a safe fruit for diabetics.

? Pineapple?Digestion, allergies, arthritis, inflammation, edema, hemorrhoids.

? Pomegranate juice?Good wormer, high in antioxidants, beneficial effects on heart disease, hemorrhoids, fertility, blood, prostate cancer and osteoarthritis. A single pomegranate provides 40% of an adult's recommended daily allowance of vitamin C. Pomegranates are also a rich source of folic acid and vitamins A and E. One pomegranate also contains three times the antioxidant properties of red wine or green tea.

? Strawberries?Strengthens the blood, nerve tonic, keeps glands healthy, protects against cigarette smoke toxins.

? Watermelon?Kidneys, edema, used as a diuretic.

My husband and I completed a 40-day fast the summer of 2006. We tried almost every fruit here in our juicer and came up with some favorites. You can check out ?Our Favorite Raw Fruit Juice Recipes? at: http://www.naturalhealthtechniques.com/Newsletter/aug06_files/aug06.htm
